From the decade that gave us Friends, alternative rock (grunge), and the rise of Starbucks you can also find some of the best songs ever recorded. The 1990's are full of personal memories as that was the decade which included my high school and college years. Some amazing music was written during this time as alternative, country, and pop music all underwent significant shifts and ruled the charts. First, here are a few songs that just missed the cut.
Just Kiss Me by Harry Connick, Jr.
Philosophy by Ben Folds Five
Livin' On The Edge by Aerosmith
You Don't Know How It Feels by Tom Petty
Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman
Friends In Low Places by Garth Brooks
Black Or White by Michael Jackson
Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
One Headlight by The Wallflowers
Loser by Beck
Tennessee by Arrested Development

I am biased, but to me the 1990's produced the best music of my lifetime. That's why you see this list containing the "Top 20" as opposed to the "Top 10" list (as well as an honorable mention list) found in previous post of the 70's & 80's.
You may have also noticed the inclusion of a Christian song, "Jesus Freak", by DC Talk. It was during the 1990's that I became a Christian which heavily influenced my listening choices during the 2000's. Check back soon to see what songs did or didn't make the cut in my favorite songs of the early 2000's!
