Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and the 2012 Olympics

Below is a newsletter from our friends David & Amy Tripple. They are preparing to move to Lubbock, TX to work with Athletes In Action sharing the Gospel message on the campus of Texas Tech. To learn more about their ministry and how you can support their mission efforts CLICK HERE!

I have always loved watching the Olympics on TV, especially the summer Olympics.  There is nothing quite like the theatrics of the opening ceremony, the suspense of a nail-biting finish, or the grace of a gymnast’s perfect routine.  There is something incredible about watching representatives from nearly every country in the world come together in one location to compete!

Last week, I (Amy) received an email from the AIA Communications office asking if I would be willing to drive to Texas A&M to take a few pictures of one of their swimmers.  I was immediately intrigued – I have been itching to use photography in ministry and here was my chance to get started!  Little did I know, the athlete I will be photographing in a few weeks will also be swimming for Croatia at this summer’s Olympics in two events, the 200m backstroke and the 200m individual medley.  She is a standout athlete who also loves Jesus.  Now she is headed to London to represent her family’s home country of Croatia, but more importantly, to represent Christ.  What a great opportunity and example of how athletes can influence and reach people all over the world for Him!

In addition, this summer Athletes in Action will send 180 individuals to London to serve as chaplains and counselors in an effort to reach Olympic athletes with the Gospel.  Please pray that the athletes will have an opportunity to meet with these people and engage in meaningful spiritual conversations.  AIA is also looking for 3,000 people to pray for four or five Olympic athletes by name.  This is an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the life of an athlete by becoming a prayer partner for the Olympics!  If you are interested in signing up, please visit http://olympics.athletesinaction.org and click on the “Prayer Strategy” box.  Complete the form with your contact information and AIA will follow up with you by email.

Praises
  • For several months, Silas had some severe upper respiratory issues along with constant eczema on his face and scalp.  We are relieved and thankful to have pinpointed and resolved the cause of the issue – an allergy to a particular milk protein.
  • We were able to trade in our old car and purchase a 2004 Honda Odyssey with 88,000 miles with no car payment!  This van has already been such a blessing to our family.
  • God has provided 85% of our needed monthly support!
Ways to Pray for Us
  • We are trusting God for the remaining 15% of our support to come in before the end of June.  We have a moving truck reserved for the first week in July and are asking God that we will be fully funded so that we can make the move to Lubbock!
  • Pray that God would provide the perfect family to buy or lease our home!
Thank you so much for your prayers!  Please let us know how we can be praying for you!

Pressing forward,
David, Amy, Liam, and Silas
