Below is a recent devotional I wrote for "The Year of the Word" at Spring Lake Church.
If my people, who are called by my name…
We are part of God’s chosen people. Can you imagine belonging to anyone else or having a better title than “God’s people?”
...will humble themselves
God’s people must humble themselves. We must realize that nothing in and of ourselves saves us.
Read Romans 5:6-8 and James 4:10
…and pray
God’s people must stay in communication with Him. He wants us to remain in a relationship with Him at all times. The whispers of our heart; He hears. The thoughts on our minds; He hears. The joy in our soul; He feels.
Read Philippians 4:6
A key ingredient to prayer is remembering to bring everything to Him with thanksgiving, knowing that He has been faithful to you time and time again. Prayer is a link to keep you connected to God. It is not a wishing well to get what you want from God. Take time to present your requests to God and remember that He knows best how to answer each one.
…and seek my face
When a person chooses a career path they spend time receiving the necessary education. When someone wants to get to know their future mate they spend time with them. Everything we place value in requires a time investment. The most valuable relationship we will ever have is our relationship with God. Take time to seek Him in every moment.
…and turn from their wicked ways.
If there is anything in your life that is keeping you from knowing who God is, ask God to remove it.
Read Psalm 51:10
…then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Humble yourself, pray, seek His face, and turn away from evil. Do not let anything get in the way of a real relationship with God.
Read Hebrews 10:22-23

Thanx, Aaron, a very thought provoking devotional. For me the operative work is "IF" and so often we think of it as "when". We get so far away from when that we forget to call on Him or we get so busy in our world today that we don't take every opportunity to call on Him. Also, "humble" is another word. We are a very proud people and don't want to humble ourselves to pray. And, when we pray we expect instant "pop top" gratification. Thanx for the reminder, I needed that. Your brother in Christ. Joe
